Target Crux 01 Swiss Point 22 gram Steel Tip Darts

Being an “old school” player with a history of having learned grammar in my youth, reminded and constantly annoyed by more modern people who have no idea of what grammar means, why would you name a set of darts Crux ? I’m from a generation that both loves the enigmas the English language manages to lay across the way we speak and think, but also the way words are used to add mystique and depth to what would be ordinary language.

Crux, is a word that dependant on the circumstance or application refers to a pivotal point.

Which in the case of this set of Target Swiss Point Darts, is an appropriate name.

The darts shipped to me were the Crux 01 in 22g with standard Swiss Points

So where to start?

The darts as I said are Swiss Points, supplied in the standard smooth livery, in the standard Short length, to my way of thinking it would cost almost nothing to dump the smooth points in favour of a set of diamond point Swiss points and in the exercise provide a dart that “stays” in the board and doesn’t need to be roughed up in order to stay in the board.  While we’re on the critique side the flights and shafts are also something that works against the package.

The shafts are the latest version of Target pro grip shaft having the Short shaft profile but, the “Pro Grip” has been replaced by a red Target.

I think the only negative I could pick-out other than the super smooth points, are the flights, combine the 100 micron Crux flights with the Target Pro-grip shafts and what you get I’d a set of flights that constantly “pop out” when they land close together. It’s not a major niggle but it really gets on your nerves after a while.

So, out of the box ?

Sorry, but I swapped out the points for a longer set of Swiss points, the plain Points gave me zero support, and the net results with the grip points are a massive improvement on the stock darts. The Flights, well it’s a matter of individual taste but as I said earlier I’m not keen on what is supplied because they keep popping out and that is a distraction.

In the end I swapped out the points, the flights and was really impressed with the result at hand.

The barrels are a standard length at 51mm parallel or pencil shaped barrel, divided into a forward micro grip, and a rear quasi hero grip. Not an exotic dart design but a really solid basic dart for most players from the round nose to the plain finish a really nice dart.

Taking them to the board, they are a really nice set to throw, even with the changes, they remain a set of well-balanced darts for everyone, from novice to seasoned player. The grip rates at a 3.5 out of 5.0 not an aggressive grip but a solid grip, and at this price point the overall value would come in at a 4.25 out of 5.0. Remember, these come in 3 different styles with weights that range from 21 to 26 g and like I said at this price for a 90 % tungsten dart there are only winners.
