Winmau Blade 6 Dual Core Dartboard
Share
It’s been a long and interesting road, reviewing a number of Dartboards of various Manufacturers’.
Some have exceeded expectations, others have been such miserable failures that I had to cut short the trial because I couldn’t keep a dart in the board. Clearly price is not the only indicator of the quality of a product.
The Blade 6 dual core is one of Winmau’s latest generation Dart board. I’ve had the Blade 6 up now for a little over a month and I have to say that it’s a long way from its short-lived predecessor.
Like most men I have very basic expectations of most things, I expect quality and longevity for the money I spend on anything. I’m not easily disappointed but, can be very judgemental when I feel I’m not getting bang for my buck.
The Blade 6 Dual Core arrives well packed in its mostly black coloured carton. Included in the carton is a standard Mounting Bracket and a set of 3 adjustable Rota-Lock locking wheels, to stop the board turning when removing your darts from the board. The box is easily opened and the accessories provided are well backed inside the carton.
The board is a standard size, 17 3/4” in diameter and 1 ½” thick.
Making it easy to fit most styles of Dartboard lighting and almost every dartboard surround available.
In my case I use the Deadeye U hanging Kit and once the disk is mounted on the back of the board it literally takes a few minutes in total before you’re playing.
The board itself is well finished; the alternating black and white (natural) segments are clean and crisp in colour. The alternating red and green double and triple rings are bright and vivid, they stand out on the board along with the green outer and red inner bull’s eye. The colours on this board just pop! A great contrasting feature is the white painted number ring, making it easy to read the numbers against the black background. It’s mounted securely in four nylon blocks that appear to have been ergonomically resized and positioned.
The blade wire bridge sits only just above the sisal and the design of the bridge wire incorporates a 60o taper to ensure that there is almost no chance of a bounce out off the wire, and most importantly the bullseye is in the true centre of the board (but let’s not even go to that place).
Playing on the Blade 6 dual core is like playing on a board you’ve had forever, no strange noises nothing different just pure unadulterated fun. The board is firm in in its packing, and when mounted on a solid wall and the Rota Lock System adjusted correctly the only thing you hear is the muffled thump of the darts driving home into the sisal.
The self-healing properties of the board are fantastic, I’ve had it up for over a month and played on it almost every day and the face of the board is like new, barely any indication of open or unhealed holes caused by dart points, even leaving darts in the board overnight (and I hate doing that), produces no long term surface issues with almost the whole surface having self-healed since hanging the board. I think the only negative (and now I’m nit picking) is the fact that the board comes with a pressed metal mounting bracket. For the price point, even a basic U style mount that allows a firm mount and an easy rotation of the board would be a bonus.
As far as I am concerned the board lives up to each and every claim it makes in its promotional blurb.
A BIG 5 out of 5 from the Darts Collector more if I could! Don't forget to check out my page on the best Winmau darts.
