Tex Darts Titan Dartboard
Monday, June 20th, 2022 - The Darts CollectorTex is an OLD name in the darts game, known more for their range of brass darts in the day.
The Titan is an interesting offering in the bulging range of dartboards available at the moment.
At the price point it appears to be good value for money, but how does it perform in comparison to other boards, similarly price or even more expensive?
Let’s start with the way the board looks. It’s a standard tournament size board, 45cm in diameter (17 ¾”) and 35mm thick (1 3/8”). The colouring is bright and well defined over the board, while the wires are well positioned and typical of any other blade style boards and raised only a few mm above the surface of the board.
Like a few boards on the market, these boards don’t have a top or even bottom as such.
The words Tex Darts and Titan are printed on the board at 5 equally spaced points on the outer edge of the board. The board also has a revised metal number ring with pressed metal numbers, not the usual wire numbers but bigger and wider and easier to read (given you don’t already know the layout out by heart).
The number ring is held in place by the usual nylon blocks four of them to be precise.
Looks just like any other board with the exception of the bigger numbers.
The board also works really well with the Corona Light and the Torus 270 no issues at all here.
The board is supplied with the old standard metal mounting brackets and screw, it also comes with a set of stabilising feet that screw into the back of the board to stabilise it. Mind You these are useless when you use a nylon mounting bracket of any brand because the board is further away from the backing board.
Playing on the board has its ups and downs as well. Over the years after a few sherbets, its not uncommon to stick a dart into the number ring blocks, on this board they have the tendency to fracture or break – be warned. Also when throwing a bit wildly for doubles, I found it very easy to actually hit a number. The number ring blunts the point a bit, but if the dart hits the floor the outcome can be worse.
The board is OK, tending a bit to the hard side, its not overly noisey, but its self-healing properties are not at all evident. Colours on the board are bright and do not run between segments.
During the time it was on the wall I’m happy to report that I had no bounce outs, and even though the board is a bit on the firm side there were no drop outs during play. In my opinion it’s an average board,
Tex have tried to be somewhat innovative with the design and features on the board with limited success. The larger numbers can get in the way, the branding is obscured by the number ring and my pet hate, the sisal packs are clearly visible across the face of the board from the Oche.
For me the board would score 2.5 out of 5.
Positives
- Bright packaging
- Great colours and finish (except for the sisal bundle visibility)
Negatives
- Poor self-healing
- Bulky Number ring
- Basic Hanging hardware
There are other boards in this price point that offer more.
