Target Lewy Williams G1 23 gram DartsThursday, May 5th, 2022 - The Darts Collector
Here we are with yet another Target “Youngblood” who started off in the Target Elite1 program and at 19 picked up his PDC Tour card! For those that follow the tour he has managed to beat some of the best in the game.
Let’s start from the beginning, the darts arrive in their themed packaging, something Target really have down to a fine art.
The pack shows the player, the Darts and the theme is completed with the Welsh Dragon. The inner is the usual target packaging, supporting and protecting the darts, and acts as a display when unpacking the set.
The darts themselves are different to the usual player based set.
Starting with the basics, these are a very busy barrel design, too busy to add dimensions.
They are a standard 50.8mm long and 6.6mm in diameter with a rounded nose.
The barrel starts with two ‘plain’ rings on the front, the rings are crossed by 6 short radial grooves, closely followed by 6 equally sized and spaced micro groove sections, then three similarly sized plain rings, a double size plain ring rolling on into a section punctuated by 8 round bottom grooves that have been sand blasted leaving a Matt grey metallic finish toward the rear of the dart. The barrel is finished with a short natural ring leading to the shaft.
The package comes with short blue Pro Grip shafts and Lewy Williams’s flights, Welsh Dragon on one wing, and what appears to be a Welsh Dragon heraldry inspired design in blue on the opposite wing. These very effective looking flights finish off the package well.
The fact that these darts have been packaged with short shafts and they are a longish barrel is, in my opinion is a perfect match. Straight out of the box the balance feels very natural. Grip points on the barrel support front, rear and middle grips. I’ve reviewed many sets but, this is one of only a few that is heavier than my regulars but is such a nice dart to throw. It won’t be perfect for everyone but for players who like a straight thinner barrel they are so close it’s not funny.
At the Oche, I went through the standard practice drills, around the board on doubles, 170 in nine darts and others the results were consistent and pleasing particularly with an unfamiliar set of darts.
They are well balance in the hand and smooth and direct in the air.
The grip while far from extreme is outstanding it’s positive without being over the top likely rates 3.0 out of 5.
This is a really nice set, if they fall in your weight range and your preference is for straight barrels these are well worth a go.
Overall they rate a 4 out of 5, a really nice set that I got a real kick out of reviewing
