A Little History from All About Darts

Luckily for the modern darts player the game was not one of the many sports banned during the suppressive reigns of the middle ages. Darts was considered a sport of military men and useful for keeping soldiers throwing arms in practice. The Dark Ages were therefore a fairly bright time for ye old darts.

As hurling darts became more widespread under official sanction it apparently graduated from the ranks. Regimental competition increased, officers, and later even nobility picked up the game, so very soon cries of "mugs away" could be heard echoing through the stone corridors of many a lord's castle. It is an historical fact that Ann Boleyn gave a set of darts to King Henry VIII though the story she lost her head when she beat him has not been verified
